TeleClasses
Frequently
Asked Questions
A TeleClass
is a class that is conducted as a conference call. Most TeleClasses are more informal
than traditional classroom settings. Between 10-100 registrants call a regular
phone number in the United States (commonly in Orlando, San Francisco or Las Vegas)
at a specifically scheduled class time.
If you have call waiting on your phone, disable it before you call.
At the scheduled time, call the number you were given at registration. When you
call that number at your class time, you'll be automatically connected to the
TeleClass.
TeleClasses begin promptly at 2 minutes after the listed start time. This gives
you enough time to call in and be welcomed by the TeleClass Leader. Generally
the TeleClass Leader will greet the callers and provide an overview. Just listen
for the first several minutes so you understand how the class will be managed.
Then feel free to ask questions or make comments as appropriate.
Classes tend to be highly interactive. You can listen and absorb and/or engage
in the discussion. And, you can always ask questions of the TeleClass Leader.
It's just like a classroom, only it's a "virtual" classroom.
You may call from any phone, but please call from a quiet area (put the dog in
the other room!), and try not to use a speaker phone, a cell phone, or
an internet-based phone . You may be asked to use your "mute" button
if there are several people on the call at the same time - it can get a little
noisy with dogs and kids in the background especially when people are using speakerphones,
and some people just breathe heavily.
You may call from anywhere in the world -- classes often have callers
from Europe, Australia and Asia.
Most TeleClass sessions last an hour. Some meet one time only, others meet weekly
for 4-8 weeks, sometimes longer. At the end of the call, everyone hangs up
You do not need a computer in order to be in the class. All you need is a regular
phone! However, you will need a computer with Internet access if you want to view
the ClassNotes and other materials that may be available in a student-only web
section.
We can think of several advantages!! -
You don't have to travel - that saves time and fuel!!
-
The cost is less because the instructor doesn't have to pay for training rooms
or travel expenses.
- You
have the advantage of learning from people all over the world
-
You can learn from the comfort of your home. If you have kids, this could save
on childcare costs.
- You
can schedule classes at times convenient for you.
How many more can
you think of??
The call to one of our bridges is a standard long distance charge. There are no
conferencing fees, so you would just pay your long distance carrier whatever your
rates are. Most carriers charge $3-6 an hour for long distance, so the cost is
minimal.
Some classes are free and some have a fee . You will pay for fee-
(or tuition-) based classes with a credit card or personal check prior to the
beginning session. Free classes do not have any additional charges beyond the
cost of your telephone call.
Classes which are held by telenbridge will be identified either in the description
or the title. Simply complete the information requested and you will receive an
email confirmation with the time and telebridge number.
You will generally receive an email reminder about the class a day or before the
scheduled date. You can also send an email to the instructor. Just remember that
due to the nature of teleclasses, it may be impossible for the instructor to respond
if your email is sent too close to the start of the class.
Sorry, you can't. The TeleClass leader owns the intellectual property rights,
and is the only one who may tape the session, unless they give you explicit permission
to do so. In those cases where the instructor is taping the program, you will
be notified that the session is being taped. If you are concerned about missing
information because you are going to miss a session, you may have a friend, colleague
or family member listen in silently and take notes for you.
Any Class Notes and intellectual property are generally owned by the creator of
the TeleClass, depending on who created the class and the materials. The content
and discussions of the TeleClasses are for your own direct use only and cannot
be repackaged, shared, or resold without a licensing agreement. Intellectual property
rights, trademarks and copyrights are vigorously protected.
